My sister Mrs. Clara W. C. Walton & her little son Eddie started back to Illinois this morning. Her visit has given me great pleasure & I think benefitted her.
Gov. Tod telegraphed to Marietta that Pierpont of Virginia has notified him that our border is threatened by the rebels and we must be on the alert.
Peggy's comments:
With her sister Clara's visit, Julia seems to have put concerns about the war out of her mind for a time. It is not very far away, however. Soon her nephew Rufus R. Dawes would march toward Gettysburg.
