Mr. Burgess and Rev. J. C. McCoy called. I saw Miss Hannah Love at the Post Office, it was reported that John Newton intended to marry her, but his family broke off the match. She is a smart girl and has attended the best schools in Marietta, and has herself been a successful teacher. She has plenty of confidence in her self and is an inveterate talker -- there is nothing to be said against her but her humble birth. The train was late to-night. James P. Walton came on it & will stay til Monday. There is a report that Sherman has taken Atlanta Georgia. I wrote to Clara.
