This is the day fixed upon for the surgical operation upon Ephraim’s face. I shudder at the thought of what he must suffer. His mother has been nervous & anxious all day, and most of the time obliged to keep her bed. Mrs. John Slocomb was here & made a two hours call, I thought it inopportune. Many others came in to express their sympathy.
