A great many people have called today asking if we have heard from Ephe. As yet we know nothing, but hope that we shall hear that the operation has been successful. -- I recieved a note from Lucy written Wednesday evening, the night she got to Cincinnati. She says: “We reached here safely & found Eph. at the Depot -- he is feeling very well now. I am glad Rufus & I came down, Rufus will stay with him during the operation which will be a very severe one -- so the Dr. says (if he dont take chloroform), & Dr. Blackman seems to think he had better not --- I expect to be “used up” by the time I get home, but will try and do as near right as I can. I hope all will be for the best.”
